We really love the environment, decor and scent of the hotel. Can you tell us something more about the story behind some of the details we encounter when stepping into the hotel?
Me and my colleagues get questions daily about the lovely scent of the hotel. The scent is called Patchouli Twist and is made especially for Bank Hotel. If you want to take some of Bank Hotel home with you, it can be bought both as a scented candle and as a fragrance spray. Many of our guests also wonders about our logo, the owl that you can see everywhere in the hotel, but miss that it is already at the entrance. On each side around the large bronze doors is an owl engraved in stone. These are the original doors from when the building was completed in 1910 and the owl symbolizes wisdom. One of our cocktailbar Papillon is located in the bank director’s old office and is named after his great interest in butterflies.
You have worked at Bank Hotel for a while now and have seen the hotel develop. What has happened during your time at the hotel?
It has been a little bit more than two fantastic years for me so far and a lot has happened. When I started at Bank Hotel, the eighth floor consisted of concrete only which is hard to believe today and feels strange to think about that the rooftop bar Le Hibou has not always been there. The hotel together with our bars and restaurants Sophie’s, Le Hibou, Papillon and Bonnie’s has really become a destination for both Swedish and foreign guests. I am especially proud of the entire banking team who together not only ranked number 1 on Tripadvisor out of all the hotels in Stockholm, but we are also are keeping that place.
Personally, I see myself develop every day and I constantly learn new things as no day are like the other. It is incredibly fun and evolving to get to know and build relationships with our guests and meet their wishes no matter what. I am inspired by my colleagues and I try to take in as much of their knowledge and experience as I can. In the future, I look forward to welcoming back all guests who have not had the opportunity to visit us in the past year, as well as welcoming all new guests who come to us! Hopefully the situation whit Covid-19 will soon be a little bit better and the restrictions can be eased so that Bank Hotel can be open as usual.
Rumor has it that you are hooked on the cold baths trend and are also very fond of skiing. Tell us more!
Yes, It’s true that I tested some cold baths this winter. It does really aches when you get in the cold water but you have to play it cool and look unbothered to get your friends in the water. Once you are back up again you feel so energised! Before my two winters working in Val d’isére, I was a girl who always chose the sun for a holiday, but today I would choose a skiing holiday every day of the week. There is not much better than a full day summit hike on a sunny spring day in Val d’isére, which ends with a après ski of course.
Finally, what is the perfect Bank hotel / Stockholm experience look like to you?
How fun! We leave work early on Friday and start already at 13:00. If we are lucky, the hotel room is ready for check-in, otherwise we the bags at the frontdesk to be carried to the room. It is very important to be first in line to get the best seats in the sun at Le Hibou where we toast to the weekend with bubbles. When the face has received just the right amount of sun, it’s time to get ready for dinner at Spesso. If the current restrictions apply, we will have drinks afterwards in the hotel room, served from Papillon’s Bartender on Call.
Saturday morning starts with a long breakfast at Bonnies which is served until 12:00. The bags are taken care of by the frontdesk at check-out and then we go for a long walk around Djurgården that ends with a lunch at Calle P, outside in the Berzelii Park.
Thank you Emma and see you at Bank Hotel!
